Thanks to all of the shooters who turned out and shot in both
events, the FITASC and the Sporting Clays shoot. These summer
shoots are new for us and we had a typical Florida summer day on
Sunday, sunny, hot, and humid, with a little breeze. The
alligator who usually suns on the bank on the other side of the
canal from Station #8 was not in attendance (that we could
tell). We have had enough rain that the bank that he lays on is
under water and so he has found a new summer hang out.
We
shaded each FITASC peg with a tall sun umbrella and provided
coolers with gator aid at each par cours. It was still hot. But
some of you were hotter! Ed Welch and Steve Nelson traded
victories, Ed in the FITASC and Steve in the Sporting Clays to
tie in the combined events with scores of 88. The shoot off for
the overall victory was held on parcour #2 from the FITASC and
Ed and Steve showed why they are at the top of the score
columns. The primary shoot off target was the A Bird, shot from
peg 3, which was not a target shot in the tournament. From this
peg it was a full on crosser at about 45 yards, with a lot of
spring (or as we say when we are setting the targets “more cow
bell”). This was paired with a fast high quartering incomer off
the tower. Ed and Steve were tied after the first shoot off
round of 3 report pairs. The midi teal was then paired with the
A bird crosser and Steve Nelson moved ahead for the win. These
two guys are both fantastic shooters and congratulations to both
on great shooting. Interestingly, they both shoot left handed
and both shoot semi-autos.
Thanks especially to the rest of the shooters many of whom shot
the tougher FITASC targets for the first time. We hope you had
fun. Some of these targets will remain on the 5 Stand and
Station 1 of the Sporting clays course for practice. Also we
plan to keep at least a 4 machine FITASC set up on Station 1 of
the Sporting Clays course for the foreseeable future. You will
need to get one of the staff to trap this for you, but it will
be available.
And a special thanks to our volunteer trappers for the Sporting
Clays, Jackie Pleseas, Ernie Smith, Richard McCabe, Norm
Beckman, Don Webster and Dan Braswell. You folks were
instrumental in helping us put on a good shoot. Thank you for
efforts and contribution, they are sincerely appreciated.
